HERO vs ZERO
I'm in a state of shock & still trying to process yesterday's shameful, traitorous debacle in the WH: A DAY THAT WILL LIVE IN INFAMY. Our standing in the world has plummeted overnight, but the repercussions will be felt forevermore.

Enjoying embracing the dry January challenge, it’s only been 4 days, which I know is nothing, but, head already feels clearer and sleep is better - despite horrible flu/chest infection.

Vehicle motion cues in iOS 18 are a life saver, especially when using the Avanti West coast line… 🥴🤢

Looking forward to a couple of days in Edinburgh with the team. Nice way to round off a throughly decent 2nd half of 2024.

Thank you 2024, you’ve been better than last year, lots of good things happened, I’ve learned lots, reconnected with the industry, and had a blast.

Thanks to all that have made it the year it’s been, here’s some swears about it - gbbns.co/journal/2024...

Anyone fancy proof reading a sweary, grammar confused nightmare of a blog post for me?

Accessibility question:

Expected behaviour for a user of assistive tech, the Skip to main content link, should it:

a) go to and focus the h1

Or

b) go to the main content (as one would expect?

I know it sounds daft, just trying to get some insights to oust back with.

Any decent block-lists out there?

@jhey.dev @seaotta.bsky.social How are you getting on the BenQ halo lightbar? I’m toying with getting one, but want honest folks feedback.

Bluesky does have email based 2FA and you can (should) turn it on now.

Not as good as being able to use an authenticator app, but better than nothing

Amazed at just how easy it was to use my own domain as my handle! Hopefully folks can still find me 👀
November 18, 2024 at 1:03 PM
If I change my handle to be my custom domain, does it also update any starter packs I’m tagged in?

My @perfnow.bsky.social slides will be up soon, but TL;DR: the web is losing, in part because frontend has been captured by charlatans. It's hurting users, and keeping the web from competing.

To stave off irrelevance, the open web must deliver for users.

Currently I have a production site on 11ty v1, is it worth the effort upgrading it to v3, or moving it entirely over to Astro?

Watching the news, and boy is it depressing. Listening to the incoherent, tangent driven, ramblings of an absolute power-mad maniac 😢

RTO mandates are all well and good, until you’ve the point where you’ve been trying to get home for nearly two hours, and still have at least an hour left, all because the infrastructure in your country is awful.

Home from an amazing weekend in The Lakes with my amazing girlfriend, absolutely did not want it to end.

One of the biggest issues faced this year has been how “design leaders” still don’t get accessibility.

Good design is nothing if folks can’t use it. That’s not a difficult concept to take in, yet some “design leaders” still need you to justify it.

Go figure.

Burnout is a common thing accessibility advocates deal with.

Few organizations have actual preventative measures to reduce burnout risk.

@shellelittle.bsky.social has a good talk on this.

Incidentally, her mentorship is the biggest reason I haven’t burnt out. Follow her

It’s only after stoping to reflect on the year, in prep for an end of year post, I’ve realised how fucked up some of it actually was, but equally how it’s helped me grow. Thankful, as ever, for my amazing support network. Can’t wait to finish it. Already excited for next year.
