Yesterday, I watched both Mary Poppins (boxd.it/cfngRx) and La La Land (boxd.it/cfJEzV) for the first time, and I’m so mad at myself for not watching them both sooner! Two immediate new favourites and two films that have put me in the mood to watch more musicals!
A ★★★★★ review of Mary Poppins (1964)
Mary Poppins is a musical set during turn of the century London, when a magical nanny employs music and adventure to help two neglected children become closer to their father. A film I should’ve watch...

I love high camp, over-the-top 90s action films and I love “alternative” Christmas films so I don’t know why I didn’t watch The Long Kiss Goodnight before last night. I LOVED this silly and incredibly cunty film and I will absolutely revisit it on a yearly basis. boxd.it/ca02Bp
A ★★★★★ review of The Long Kiss Goodnight (1996)

I loved Sunset Boulevard when I first watched it but rewatching it on the big screen yesterday just made me appreciate even more. Such a beautiful looking yet ridiculously sad and tragic film that understandably played a big part in influencing so many other masterpieces. boxd.it/c9E2Fd

The Tarnished Angels is great for various reasons, but let’s be honest here, the one reason you should watch this film is very specifically for THAT cunty parachute scene with Dorothy Malone. boxd.it/c8vcjT

The moustache has been trimmed, the head has been shaved and the Star Wars Christmas jumper is out! All I need now is for the next three and a half days of work to hurry up, and I might even start feeling festive.

I haven’t stopped thinking about Last Christmas since watching it for the first time last night. I’m still undecided on whether I admire or am horrified by the absolute audacity of its twist, but one thing’s for certain, I was very entertained by this hot mess. boxd.it/c4UCbl (it’s a spoiler review)

Wake Up Dead Man is a consistently funny, intriguing and unpredictable murder mystery sequel that further proves that the Knives Out franchise gets better with each film. boxd.it/c2Vo4J sadly, Josh O’Connor and Andrew Scott don’t kiss but I thought it’d be unfair to remove a star for that.
A ★★★★★ review of Wake Up Dead Man (2025)

Another banger from the BFI’s Too Much: Melodrma on Film season boxd.it/c24r1R this has worked as a great reminder that I need to watch more Fassbinder films - I am always in the mood to watch films that somehow manage to be just as high camp as they are depressing. Incredible stuff.

I don’t think we talk enough about how unbelievably hot Tony Leung Chiu-wai is in In the Mood for Love – he’s always very attractive in everything he’s in, but in this film, he’s potentially one of the top five sexiest men in any film ever made.
