I think you'll find that it's more complicated than a binary choice. Taxes need to be levied in proportion to wealth and income. If 1 in 10 has 9/10 of the wealth they need to be paying 90% of the tax.
The fundamental problem:

58% of voters want public spending maintained or increased.

67% want taxes to stay at their current level or be cut.

In reality, it’s a binary choice. Taxes go up, or spending is cut. That’s it.

Another sign of shifting politics? Labour lead Reform by 11 among those who say they are very comfortable financially. But trail Reform by 16 among those who say they often struggle to make ends meet - in fact Greens are close to overtaking Lab for 2nd with those who say they are struggling most.

The Green Party wants to Abolish Landlords.

The question on everyone’s lips:
What does that actually mean?

Here’s motion proposer @sallonsax.bsky.social talking to @turnleftmedia.co.uk about just that!

Important to say: the title of the motion doesn't reflect the content, as mentioned in the debate - even by the proposer. It's about holding landlords to far greater account, and working towards far more equitable housing ownership without a profit motive. Having lodgers isn't affected.

Green Party Conference 2025 just passed a motion that would Abolish Landlords!

Through a programme of unprecedented council house building, taxation and housing those who need it, a Green government would eliminate profit from a human right.

Housing for all.

Whitehall doesn’t trust local government. Restricting and metro mayors are for Whitehall’s convenience and to make it easier to deliver its agenda, not rebuilding local democracy. Pride in Place is significant because it talks about “communities” rather than local government.

Privatisation of UK industries driving cost of living crisis & inequality.

People ripped off by water, energy, rail, mail companies.

Profiteering at care homes, dentists, GP surgeries, cataract clinics. Social housing destroyed.

Privatisation is a scam. Delivered low investment, poor service.
