The orders will be judged in court on Thursday. If the guard stay after the orders are deemed illegal, then we can call them fascists.

The National Guard soldiers are not fascists. Fascists are deploying them using ambiguously legal means. Know who your enemy is.

For sure, he’s going to try everything he can. I appreciate your bringing up specific concerns about it. It’s just the vague doomerism of “elections will be cancelled” that feels unhelpful.

This isn’t a matter of law, it’s a matter of what mechanisms he would use. He can bluster at red state governments to fuck with elections and try to send troops, but no election officials report to him or his underlings.

Elections are run by the states. Trump is technically able to do a lot of things he’s not legally authorized to, but he doesn’t have a mechanism of straight up stopping elections. The suppression will have to be more subtle.
