From mid-April, the Lagoon is covered by pink and white tamarisk blossoms. And now in May, red and white poppies bloom in the salt marshes ("barene").

Thousands of candles illuminate the dark Basilica these days, there's never enough space to light them all at once. They will be re-used in the year to come.
Since then, Venetians have been visiting La Basilica della Salute every year on 21 November, crossing a pontoon bridge over the Grand Canal. It's a promise which had been given by the Patriarch and Venetian government back in 1630, when the first pilgrimage took place.

My favorite dessert is made with treasures from the garden: This is gelato made from uva fragola (strawberry grape), carefully enriched with spices like cinnamon and cardamom, and a hint of white pepper. We use spices to bring out the flavor of the grape.
