I wish game critics would be less tentative about saying when a game is too hard. There's so much reticence and pussy footing around it. It's not a show of weakness, it's weaker not to say it :')

How wild and revelatory.

This sort of stuff makes me want to scream sometimes I swear

Start GOTY season the right way by listening to @gaminginthewild.bsky.social and I go back and forth with some of our picks, and the games we somehow need to make time to get around to!
Every year I run a GOTY series with podcaster guests from my fave shows. They're some of the most fun episodes of the year.

First up in '25 is @benjicong.bsky.social of @themimicsveil.bsky.social, who dropped by to talk fifu, Consume Me, ARC, Silksong, & more.

Leaving Iceland for England, I'm like, ah, one last lungful of clean subarctic air, one last gulp of clean, fresh water, and better download any big files now on this super fast internet...

Truly, life here is not bad.

Pixel Parents is great. A great #Dispatch review, and I enjoyed hearing them take "sponsored slop-fest" The Game Awards to town and back.
🎮 Ep.87 is LIVE!

I think the reason I feel so intensely uncomfortable with shows like Succession and The White Lotus — satirical as they are — is that they all frame the mega-rich as the protagonists of society. I feel that billionaires have enough mindshare without seeping into our fiction, and ruling that too.

#ARCraiders has taken an unfortunate turn. In my last 4 solo games other players came in with "Don't shoot" then... shot.

I think the shift is, disappointingly, design-driven. Dailies incentivising PvP damage-dealing was the toothpaste leaving the tube, and that cool fragile co-op truce ended—fast.

#Dispatch is surprising me. It's an interesting, human story in fantastical wrapping, and the humour (that I worried would be grating) has more hits than misses.

I will eventually get sick of clowning on AI contradicting itself, but today is not that day.

- No, Frostpunk 2 is not an indie game, having been made by 11 Bit Studios ——— but
- Yes, 11 Bit is an indie game developer

#ARCRaiders has player challenges — find a certain piece of gear, do a certain amount of damage to ARCs, etc. I was dismayed to see a new one pop up for searching the bodies of 10 downed fellow players. It had been so chill & collaborative & fun, but incentivised PvP aggression is instant bad vibes.

So Many Games has gone from strength to strength since it started. It's a great little indie game site.

No AI slop, no mandatory cookie crap, no half-baked SEO articles, no video popovers — just good reviews of interesting games.

They're doing it right. I became a patron.

A week never goes by without #Spotify appearing more rotten.

Your algorithmic, ostensibly listening-based recommendations include paid ads in disguise.

This in addition to allegations of creating AI slop music, underpaying artists, AI war drone-gate, ICE ads-gate, etc. #BoycottSpotify
