It’s great to look back at The Chase as you can really see the behaviour of an adoptee here with Hartnell’s Doctor, him lashing out at Ian & Barbara for wanting to leave, you can see that it deeply hurt him, which is of course a huge sign of childhood attachment severance/disruption.

Hi Chris, I just wanted to say a huge thank you as one adoptee to another for making it a reality that the Doctor is an adoptee, because as you’ve said it just fits so perfectly with the history of the Doctor’s behaviour from 1963 up to when you became showrunner.

It’s not either or, just because Ruby called her birth mother ‘mum’ doesn’t mean she was invaliding her mum standing a few feet from her. Ruby saying “I wish I could tell her that I made it. Birth mum, you should see what I’ve done I travelled the universe” wouldn’t sound natural.

Well, as Louise said to Ruby, Carla, & Cherry, she always wanted to get in touch but feared Ruby would hate her. It was traumatising for Louise too, she was 15, pregnant, & living with an abusive step-dad. So that’s a really painful part of her past to revisit.

She was left at a Church with lights on & a choir singing inside, so knew that Ruby would be found. She knocked off screen, as the shot just cuts from her putting Ruby on the doorstep to her walking away.

It’s documented on Long Lost Family that birth mothers have left their newborns in the first hours of their life because their umbilical cord’s were still attached & fresh. Ruby said it was estimated that she was born at 14:00pm, & we saw that she was left at 23:55pm later that day.

It definitely is. Like Ruby I’m adopted, & it’s common for adopted people to have a fear of abandonment because of the trauma of attachment severance from our birth mother, father, & family, making it difficult to make & sustain relationships/friendships because of the fear we’ll be left again.

It’s just like how Leia is an Organa & Alderaanian through adoption, & Superman is a Kent & Human through adoption, but doesn’t make her less of an Organa/Alderaanian, & doesn’t make him less of a Kent/Human.

The Doctor being Gallifreyan through adoption still makes them Gallifreyan, they are the people the Doctor grew up amongst from infancy, the culture they absorbed, & the identity that they have had for many millennia. Plus, the Doctor was pre-Time Lords, so became one like every other Gallifreyan.
