iirc there was a fair bit of Echo Project drama about ownership rights and so on, right around the time that the two social media platforms split; I wouldn't be surprised if a schism in the creators of the project ended up reflected in which social media platform they and their fans are active on.

There's no secret network of rich backers making all this tick! It's just what you get when you cultivate a culture of genuine engagement with art & artists, rather than confining everybody to the lowest-common-denominator role of 'consumer' and reducing art to some commodity.
