I had the pleasure of dining with Dr. Johanson and his wife. The man is a rock star!

Imagine munching all day on a shiitake bigger than your house, sleeping on it, then waking up and doing it again! Good times.

The problem with US healthcare is the same as hotel laundry. It's overpriced because the people who are making the purchasing decisions are almost inevitably spending someone else's money. The end user is rarely the source of the funds. It's a common business scam in developed countries.

Played golf in high school and college, but I haven't touched a set of clubs since finishing medical school. Can't remember the last time I had 5 hours free in a day.

But I do remember there was no better way to ruin a beautiful walk in nature than a frustrating round of golf. 🤣

It takes a minimum of 12 years of higher education and hundreds of thousands of dollars to make a brand new inexperienced doctor. Even then they make lots of mistakes. I was 15 years into my career before I felt competent.

AI will go for doctors first, radiologists probably in a couple years.

My whole career was in low resource countries. Then I saw a bill from a US hospital for a disposable suture removal kit. $658 USD! That's a pair of single-use tweezers, a single-use scissor, a 2x2 gauze and an alcohol pad. In some countries we did open abdominal surgeries that didn't cost that much.

It'll be nice to feel safe walking down the street at night. It's gonna be a hot pot adventure!

Ecuador only uses dollars. We haven't had a national currency in over 20 years.

Yes but it was nearly 20 years ago. Even then it was impressive. I plan on going back with my wife (her grandfather was from China) for an extended visit around the country in the coming years. Gonna need at least 6 months to see any significant part of it.

If you think Japan looks developed, China is going to blow your mind.

What's really annoying is patients bringing me CDs with their imaging studies on them and then I have to scramble to find a computer with a CD-ROM drive.

Hopefully Kick can bring in a competent head mechanic who can sort out their unacceptable pit performance.

Politics is the art of the possible. The idea that one country was going to be able to destroy the economy of any country that they opposed was always unsustainable.

Opening the Rafah border crossing could deliver far more and doesn't require any new construction.
