Latina NYC-area biz/corp-lawyer, but not yours. Opinions my own. Dilettante dabbler. Profile pic is me dressed to lead an outdoor mobile silent disco, because joy makes people underestimate me. Banner is a Tiffany stained glass window at NYC’s Met Museum.

Tragedy of the commons? No, tragedy of the wannabe-aristocracy
It’s not that Libertarians are hard working but rather too lazy and miserly to invest in their communities. It’s a moral rot that is killing America.
Have there been any studies on what wealth does to attention spans? Because wealthy people seem to be losing the plot more and more.

It was in Jersey City! 🏙️ Cool local trivia
* In the early 1980s, the actor Mickey Rooney opened a restaurant (two, actually) called "Weene World," which specialized in hamburger-shaped hot dogs. It was...eccentric. And short-lived.

(And, yes, "Weene," not "Weenie." Reasons unclear!)

Please read this whole menu:

I promise this image is 100% real and not AI.

Pretty weird that everything is Tlön now. Wish I could withdraw into some academic artistic endeavors instead.

I couldn’t decide what I wanted to be when I grew up so I took the least imaginative route to making decent money, and then made negative amounts of money for a while (factoring in student loans)
What’s the lore behind choosing your career path ?

The problem with Game of Thrones is that it treats sociopathy/antisocial disorders as normal, common and accepted societal behaviors and peasants as entirely lacking in agency.
I continue to maintain that people are Very Bad at figuring out why they didn't like something, and tend to focus on these kind of nitpicks when a story lets them down in other ways. The problem with GoT is not the economics!

This is the part that flabbergasted me honestly. Like, what? I’m starting to think he has no idea what the words fascist or despot mean.
A reporter asks if Mamdani stands by calling Trump a fascist. Mamdani starts to give a delicate answer.

Trump (smiles, pats Mamdani's arm): "That's OK, you can just say yes. It's easier. I don't mind."

We do not in fact want bigoted opportunistic morons to be leaders within the Democratic Party; she can do this one decent thing and then she should still fade into ignominy.
Everyone stop acting weird and shocked about MTG. She has been systematically distancing herself from the current GOP for months and months. She has a plan reform herself under a new image ON THE RIGHT that’s not part of a sinking ship.

She’s not suddenly changing her tune! SHE’S AN OPPORTUNIST

I will die on the hill that American cheese singles are very good for their limited use cases (melty cheese for sandwiches/burgers, dissolving in broth to make creamy soup).

this defies parody. also helps explain why Sec Bessent bizarrely blamed immigrants when confronted with a question about high beef prices

I can’t help but think that the AI feeding frenzy on our data is part and parcel with the USA’s failure to have decent privacy laws in place.
FYI: turning off "Smart features" also turns off spell check and the promotions and social tabs. And more.

In effect, a lot of traditional tools in gmail are switched off if you don't let them upload your contracts, love notes, and sad messages to your friends into their plagiarism machine.
If you use GMail, AI (Gemini) was turned on yesterday by default and now scans all of your content for machine learning. To turn off, go to Settings>General and scroll down. Uncheck the box for "Smart features."

There's other "Smart" add-ons as well, but that's the one that reads your content.

Mark Kelly: "He's talked about sending troops into more cities, he's talked about invoking the Insurrection Act. You don't have to go too far back to his 1st administration when he went to his Sec Def & said, 'Can't we just shoot these protesters in the legs.' That is an example of an illegal order"

One girl said “it doesn’t matter if you ban a book because everyone can find that information online” and then I blew their minds by talking about how your search history can be monitored and sold to the government without your permission, but your library borrowing history requires a warrant.

It’s a bummer looking at listings for in-house counsel positions because there are so many faddish companies out there that I wouldn’t trust to last more than a year or two. A while ago it was all crypto/fintech companies. Now it’s a lot of AI companies. I don’t trust any of these dudes.
