Britain’s highest civil court ruled that the definition of a “woman” under the country’s gender equality law is based on a person’s sex assigned at birth — an anticipated judgment in a case with implications for the protections of transgender people.
U.K. Supreme Court defines ‘woman’ by biology under equality law
The ruling was a blow to trans rights advocates and cheered by For Women Scotland, which filed the case. The government said it “brings clarity and confidence.”
