Good news about a bad thing: Two big studies just appeared in Nature and JAMA suggesting that in most cases the risks from even serious Long COVID fades after 1.5-2 yrs. Until this, there'd been a lot of (understandable!) fears that it could last for a lifetime. But for most people, it seems not.

The Mastodon-ization of every new platform in which people go, "No! We don't post about _____ here, it ruins the vibes!" is obnoxious. If something isn't some egregious hate post or whatever, just block/mute and move on.

Why do I fear and distrust Meta and Zuckerberg so much?

Well, I was in Myanmar in 2012, and I had an honest to god Thomas Friedman Moment.

I chatted with a friendly cab driver who informed me that Facebook was REALLY helping him understand how evil the Rohingya were.

when Threads launched, a number of right wing accounts were flagged with a label informing users that they post “false information”

however, it appears Threads has now removed these labels

a Meta spokesperson told Donald Trump Jr. that his account was flagged in “error” & that it’s “been fixed”
Threads backtracks flagging right-wing users for spreading disinformation
Regardless, right-wing Twitter users already hate Threads.

Dissent has grown increasingly censored on Facebook in Vietnam. And now two former employees allege that "Meta has adopted an internal list of Vietnamese Communist Party officials who should not be criticized on Facebook" and that the list is kept private, even within Meta.
Facebook helped bring free speech to Vietnam. Now it’s helping stifle it.
