The New Orleans Pelicans are waiving Jaylen Nowell to create the roster spot to sign Elfrid Payton.
New Orleans is eligible for a hardship exception (several of them actually), which would have allowed for a 10 Day signing. But this way, the Pelicans don't add to their tax bill.
