If we have a regional government the chair must be elected. However, I'm a proponent of the elimination of regional government and the merger of Kitchener, Waterloo, and Cambridge. ROW is often more of a road block that an asset.
I can't argue with Councillor Craig on this one. "I want an elected chair who is accountable to the people of the Region of Waterloo, not an appointed chair who is accountable to Queen’s Park. That’s the major difference.” #WRcouncil
Councillor takes action to prevent changes to Regional Chair process
A Regional Councillor is tabling a motion to try to prevent the province from making Regional Chair an appointed position.

After 18 months of monthly meetings, and lots of work in between, tonight is the final meeting of the Kitchener 2051 working group. C of K planners are the most knowledgeable, professional group I have ever worked with.

Discouraging to see the vote so close on this...but as Scott mentions, even if this passed at Cambridge Council, it simply wasn't going to get anywhere passed that - nor should it. Either these councillors (and the mayor!) don't understand that or they're just pandering to residents. Both seem bad.
Ridiculous lede in this Record article:

"Cambridge residents will not be getting their Ion money back — at least for now..."

As if the motion passing would have meant getting money back. I mean, come on!!! 🙄

The motion calling for reimbursement from the Region of Waterloo was defeated by a 5-4 vote Tuesday night.

We've had enough of Danielle Smith's word salad. It's time for the Premier to clearly and unequivocally denounce separatism.

Albertans want to know EXACTLY where she stands.

Municipalities and the province could free up a significant amount of single home inventory by offering incentives for older adults to downsize, relocate, or move into seniors communities. It is cost prohibitive for "boomers" to move out of their family homes.

Add to that the millions of Canadians that spend half of their lives on TicToc - a Chinese company - where they willingly hand over details of their personal lives! Some may have legitimate concerns. To them I say, don't buy a Chinese EV!
Found this online 😂 re China EV’s in Canada—such hypocrites 🤭

Many older adults are more physically active than ever utilizing a variety of programs. Stretching is an important aspect of all exercise, but even though we spend long periods of time stretching in programs, we probably don't stretch at all before shoveling a ton of snow. Think about that!

If you have a stormwater drain in front of your house take a minute to clear it when you are shoveling your driveway if you are able. Yes, it is the city's responsibility but here's the problem. Crews clear drain - plow goes by and covers drain. It only takes a minute to keep it clear.

In the early 90s we lobbied hard for a pipeline from lake Huron, instead of the Grand River. It would have provided a virtually unlimited source of drinking water. This seems to be an infrastructure and treatment capacity issue rather than a supply issue. Either way the fix will be costly!
Alright, we've got a water capacity issue in #WatReg and #WRcouncil heard from many delegates on January 13th about this issue. You can watch the meeting here and/or follow along on this (potentially very long!) thread. www.youtube.com/watch?v=LZbM...

Windrows have always been an issue and it's time for KW to take responsibility and keep them clear. If you're lucky enough to live on a corner where sidewalk plows travel they will usually clear the windrow as well. What about the rest of us?
"Snowplows deposit dense snow at corners — where curb ramps are located. Many residents, particularly elderly homeowners or those with disabilities, simply cannot remove it. The people who most need accessible crossings are the ones most affected when those crossings are blocked." buff.ly/zpY2XxJ

This year seems to be particularly problematic. For a couple of years Kitchener was conducting proactive enforcement but now seems to rely solely on resident complaints. Time to get back to proactive enforcement. And, melting snow with salt is not a substitute for a shovel!
"Expecting pedestrians to report unshoveled sidewalks is inefficient and inequitable. Small teams conducting rotating, time-limited spot checks after snowfalls would improve compliance far more effectively." #Snowbility www.startribune.com/municipal-si...

So, the police chief says he's not surprised that a survey of Kitchener residents showed they believed crime has increased, even though that's not the case. Yeah, maybe those residents have been watching police budget presentations that seem to lean into the fear-mongering. #JustSaying
Kitchener residents think crime is rising, but police say otherwise
Results of a new survey show there is a disconnect between people's perception of safety and actual crime rates in their community.
