The use of language to shape our ideas of what is really going on in the economy is not by accident. Will an indy Scotland take a different path or insist on continuing with the household analogies which deceive?
Politicians tell us the UK is “borrowing too much” and faces a “debt crisis.” That’s wrong. The government creates the pounds it spends, and what’s called “borrowing” is really just it accepting deposits — or savings. It’s time to stop the scare stories.
