I really want to love bluesky but the identity politics in the Discover feed are killing me just as much as they do on X. Perhaps nostr is the only place I can survive social media now

not that i take fault in people pursuing realism in digital media, but as realism becomes more real & infallible (speaking globally: computer graphics, sampled instruments, voice synthesis, "intelligence"), it's the impressionistic and blatantly artificial that speaks more to me as an artist

Going through X and Bluesky each and blocking any and all political content, culture war content, whatever. I am on social media to be inspired, not be subjected to echo chambers of outrage that feed further polarization.

That joke isn't funny any more
In 2003, I wrote a book called Crap Towns. It seemed funny at the time. But plenty of people say it would not be possible to publish it today. Is that a problem?

It's funny how when you ask them why they think Pope Francis was "too woke" and request specific examples, they always wound up describing Christ's teachings without a hint of self-awareness.

I'm not a supporter of many of @booker.senate.gov's policy positions, but congratulations to him on beating Strom Thurmond's shameful filibuster record on the Civil Rights Act - one of the few situations in which a performative action has substantive impact.

Innovation in the tech scene feels low because it has been captured by financialization instead of creativity. It treats imagination as delusion, dreams as not monetizable. Our technical environment has been reduced to an extensive-form gacha game.

Bought a broken Sony MDS-NT1 NetMD #minidisc drive recently with simply "it makes a buzzing noise when you plug it in." Turns out the ejection drive belt had wrapped itself around the motor and turned into goo. Works great with just a little disassembly and belt replacement.
