Big one here, gang.

This list is the culmination of many things—8 years of reporting on local film, diving into Oregon film history during the pandemic, getting obsessed with Kelly Reichardt (though anyone can and should do that.)

Thanks for the space, WW.
From animated neoclassics to enamel-grinding thrillers, these are the 25 best Oregon-made movies of the past 25 years.

@hollywoodtheatre.org This week makes it 52 weeks in a row seeing something at The Hollywood. I've seen 90 films there since last November.

(If I'd thought about this more, I would have snagged all the running times. Maybe I'll start.)

@sigurros.com at The Moda Center tonight: if you were the woman behind us who told the corporate box full of very loud men to "shut the fuck up", then thank you :) It's usually me having to do that & I'm tired of it. Also, the nearby usher grinned and said they pay $19.75 an hour if you wanted a job

On this day 55 years ago, blubber went boom at the Oregon Coast.

That's when officials made the legendary decision to blow up a dead whale.

Here's a look back at the explosive piece of Oregon lore with a 2020 story by OPB's Tiffany Camhi written ahead of the whale of a tale's 50th anniversary.
‘It was like a blubber snowstorm’: Why Oregon blew up a whale in 1970
The exploding whale is a piece of Oregon lore that just won’t go away. It’s one of those real-life stories that just sounds too strange to be real.

@andrewhunterm.bsky.social Hi! It looks like Apple subscribers to Fish aren't getting the new longer episodes—is that correct? EG: Ep.607 Apple paid subscription is ~54mins, but Patreon is 1h02m. Is that a glitch or is that why you've only mentioned new benefits WRT Patreon recently? Thanks :)

@hollywoodtheatre.org Hey :) As someone planning my next few weeks of film going: are you really not showing the new Kelly Reichardt film?

If Apple's mandated RTO is what gave us liquid glass, that's an exceptionally strong argument that RTO achieves almost nothing in terms of quality improvement.

Less than a year until iOS 27 and hopefully much less liquid glass. Preferably none, but that's not going to happen, I assume.

Urgh. Ex-colleague posted a pro-Kirk comment on LinkedIn. I was trying to pinch and zoom the UI on my phone, but accidentally tapped the like button. Instantly tapped it again and then unfollowed him, but am mildly panicking that LinkedIn will send a "reacted to a post" email to a load of people.

For some reason, @bsky.app thinks I live in the UK so is demanding I verify my age. Except, I live in the US and have done for over a decade. There doesn't seem to be a way to get them to correct their inaccurate data.

Awesome work. Really impressive.

@andrewhunterm.bsky.social Hi :)

The next time you do Hendrix facts, you could consider doing one on how he spelled his name Jimi rather than, say, Jimmy :)

Catastrophic subtitling on the 1941 movie "Love on the Dole".

(It should read "She's a strange lass, is our Sal"...)

@hollywoodtheatre.org Bleak Week was excellent. I hope you do it again next year, but, uh, no Salo next time :) Some Mike Leigh would be good, though. He's definitely had some bleak films.

It's okay to not believe in encores, but it's not really okay to play for an hour when you have three albums out.
