4 years of Chinese classes and a Chinese calligraphy class and my "我" is still....bad. I do not have good handwriting. (And extremely tenuous grasp of grammar, so this refresh study I'm doing is focusing on fixing that issue, lol.)

My hobby art class assignment this week is a fantasy landscape so I did like...a concept painting and then I went and refined it with references in procreate, printed my new sketch and then light boxed it onto WC paper. Quetzalcoatl Island! Waiting for the first layer to dry.

Also just...in general I do genuinely think the swatches and painting I saw really aren't that pigment rich, even compared to other handmade watercolors out there. For example, I love Beam Paints & they have www.beampaints.com/collections/... a "full collection" for about $500 USD/$600 CAD.

I can even point specifically to how and why she had this exact problem when painting and why buying 300 colors clearly doesn't give you all the colors. I don't think the seller is malicious but they are inadvertently lying about this being the only set w/ "all primary & secondary colors together."

Scrolling thru old photos for what I need to delete to make more storage and found this photo again like....God was testing me as a Mexican Jew with this one. I'm still mad about it. They were ALL shrimp flavored.

I'm torn between a Hobonichi cousin regular (gingham? Panda? Idk! The black cats??) and the Hon cousin in seahorse (dragon) vs cats. Never tried the HON before.

Also doing charcoal shading exercises is very meditative lmao
Bonus: he showed us this black and white Roman bust and said he didn't remember the name of the possible empress and I was like "I feel like it's Flavia, but they're all Flavia."

I like purposeful scribbling! I usually do paper and material tests on the first page or two, that way scribbles serve a dual purpose for me. Usually after I've tested pencils/inks/paints a bit, I've broken through the nerves of the first blank page(s) and then I'm already using it.

Lmaooo. Even more definitive mermeat flavor ruling for you: the word used in the Talmud ("sons of the sea" who can reproduce with humans) is literally "dulfanin." So now I must side with the idea that they must taste like dolphin.

Update: figured out that the Talmud says that sons of the sea (mermaids) reproduce like humans and so therefore they aren't kosher. Also rabbis argue they aren't fish, and mi yodeya answers remain low-key hilarious.

...there's something similar to this concept but it's entirely about whether or not the mythical creatures in question are Kosher for Jews to eat (preparation matters). Idk if they discuss flavor. Idk about mermaids BUT Leviathan sea monster is served salt cured and is supposedly an amazing taste.
