My kid thrifted the boots and skirt and took the skirt in to fit herself. She also cropped and hemmed the shirt that we bought online. She made the chain from soda pop can tabs. Dad helped some with the sewing. Our mission is to style the wig this weekend. I am going to be Bobby.

I found my first feral honeybee comb yesterday!! The bees were gone. It is so elegant draped off a tulip tree branch. It is super close to my house but well out of reach. #bees #honeybees

Shout out to this little backyard composter. Family of four, vegetarian, almost all home cooked meals. We eat oodles of greens and fresh veggies and fruit. It can actually keep up with it all plus our pizza boxes.

AI idiocy is giving diagrams of animals cells with cell walls on the first page of image search results on both Duck Duck Go and Google searches.

A fun teaching moment today when a 7th grader said “Can I just use this one I found and not the diagram you gave us [as a reference]?”

My god that Benjamin Moore Color of the Year palette is mid. As inoffensive as absolutely possible.

Touching urchins! Anemones! At the Seattle aquarium. Just the experience of it was incredible. She loved how gentle and responsive they all were.

I think this is a beetle!?? There were dozens in a park, wandering. My phone couldn’t handle the detail on the matte black. Maybe an inch long. The antennae have distinct antennomeres and a flat, scleratized head. No idea. Really don’t think it’s a lep or a fly. #Entomology #Larva

Also. This was the guy who dated her older sister. This was the sweet, handsome neighborhood boy who was always over at their house. He LOVED my great aunt. My grandma absolutely loved Dick Bloch and mused that she wished he’d been her brother in law.

Ooooooooh look at this!!! Solar powered picnic table work area.

Could we get some solar panels on our outdoor classroom and power up some wifi and projectors??

This photo does not do justice to the scale of this absolute UNIT of a giant water bug. This is a full size long picnic spoon.

This little goldfinch fledgling spooked into our yard after a Cooper’s Hawk attacked its family in a tree nearby. I put it in a sheltered spot with ample cover and access to ground forage and a dish of water. Its siblings were in the tree calling. Low hopes for success but maybe a fox got a meal.

What a Honkin’ big bug!!!! A sphinx caterpillar of a sort on beautyberry. Those irregular black spots looking ominous.

Pro - letting middle schoolers pick the experimental growing conditions for a kidney bean increases their engagement in science class

Con - one group picked raw egg

It smells like you might expect 🤢

The fabric on this American Girl doll stroller got gross with mold after a couple summers on a NC porch. I do not sew (that’s my husband’s hobby) but I made this little seat during naptime today on a whim.

No pattern and no template!! And basically no sewing skills. Just gumption. I’m proud.

My noble commuting chariot.

A 2005 Gary Fisher Tassajara. Bought with the waitressing tips from gross private golf club members who hit on me or treated me like dirt as an 18 year old.

My shoes are from Glenn Swan’s shop in Ithaca. Desperately in need of replacement.
