A few years ago I planted Blue Shift sweet peas. They normally look like the last photo, but I had 1 plant that produced beautifully-mottled flowers. Haven't seen anything else online like it. Just planted seeds collected from that special variety and hoping they produce more of the same 🤞

Reef manta ray swimming along a coral bottom. It is a large ray (10-12 ft wingspan) with a white bottom, black and white top, and long while cephalic fins protruding from the side of it's mouth. It's cephalic fins are relaxed and unfurled Manta ray swimming against the blue ocean background, shot from the top. It's cephalic fin's are wrapped up into a more hydrodynamic shape to aid faster swimming

The morning light on the snow drifts along the lake today was just stunning.
Diagonal ripples of snow, alternately shadowed and lit by the early morning sun stretch off into the distance along the shore of enormous, frozen lake, also covered in snow. The parts in the sunshine are bathed in a cold yellow, while the shadows are a deep gray.

Pine grosbeaks are one of my favourite winter birds. The males are such a lovely cherry-red, while the females are a beautiful subtle yellow-grey. They've found my yard this week and have been cleaning the seeds off of my ash tree. 🪶🌿

Looking thru my Peru pics this evening, and I really like this one, captured from our small boat at night. A Napo Lime Treefrog (Sphaenorhynchus lacteus), calling from a floating mass of vegetation in an oxbow lake. Tiny frogs, this male is about an inch long. #herps #frogs #NaturePhotography 🌿

Muskrats are cute wetland mammals that build burrows in the banks of ponds and streams. They have webbed hind feet for swimming and can stay under water for over 10 minutes. 🦊

Snow waves in the late afternoon sun.

This red-breasted nuthatch was very busy foraging among the spruce cones. He paused for just a second before heading off to another bunch of cones, and I think he has a spruce seed in his beak!

One of the most dazzling birds in North America is the Indigo Bunting. Blue coloring in birds is structural rather than pigment. The structure of the feathers themselves are what is reflecting blue light. #BlueMonday
