Thanks so much for this! It’s on Apple TV if you’re in Canada.

Most of social media is! Take the TikTok algorithm: it rewards posts that align with the agenda of the ownership with visibility, it controls what goes viral and who. It sounds kooky but makes sense - the owners of major social media platforms are all Trump supporters (Musk, Shou Zi Chew…)

What depresses me the most about this movie is that nothing has changed. There are men my age (in their 30s) who cling to the mentality shown in the film, that it’s a man’s duty to sacrifice one self for societal approval. Older guys saw this as young men & took it to be a manual, not an indictment

Younger generation here & very familiar with this feeling! I grew up in the former Soviet bloc in the 90s and we only had 4 TV channels so American blockbusters were rare & announced weeks in advance. I’d be sitting by the VCR at 7:30PM sharp to tape them. It was on Fridays/Saturdays for us though.

Synchronicity is such a curious thing! I just watched this yesterday, preceded by Renoir’s Boudu Saved from Drowning. I’ll be thinking about this double feature for a long, long time. “The world’s a stage and each of us must play a part.”
