Original 1991 B5 Chirashi Handbill of David Cronenberg’s Naked Lunch that I finally got framed. The artwork is by Hajime Sorayama, a renowned Japanese illustrator. I was so glad to find it reasonably priced on eBay. The B2 sized poster is way out of my price range and much harder to come by 😝

Quick question, since the media isn’t bothering: if you’re the producer of a film up for the best intl feature Oscar AND on a film festival jury where some of the competing films are also being considered for the best intl feature, isn’t that a conflict of interest?

It’s such a shame that this isn’t playing in theatres in Vancouver right now! I don’t want to watch this at home for the first time.
Tonight’s viewing. This movie fucking rules. @shudder.com

You know how sometimes the wind currents are so powerful that sand from the Sahara desert can end up in Florida? Today the wind currents brought us a hefty whiff of bullshit from Saudi Arabia. Bullshit and sand share similar properties if you really think about it.

This is obscene. I hope the deal chokes at the regulatory approval stage (it likely won’t since the US is a lawless wasteland). I don’t have words to say how upset this makes me.
Netflix is officially buying Warner Bros. Discovery and HBO Max in an $82.7 billion deal.

The announcement came after a weeks-long bidding war that pitted the streaming giant against David Ellison’s Paramount Skydance and Comcast.

I’d be profoundly disappointed in the film community at large if Mr. Panahi ended up in prison.
Iran has sentenced in absentia Palme d'Or-winning filmmaker Jafar Panahi to one year in prison and a travel ban over "propaganda activities" against the country, his lawyer told AFP on Monday.

The travel ban is two years long, lawyer Mostafa Nili told AFP.

Imagine watching UHF as a teen and vibing along with it, thinking that maybe one day you’ll also be sticking it to greedy business men, only to become one many years later ☹️

This almost feels like a coda of a Herzog movie, all it needs is a dancing chicken 😝

Hard to believe this came out 25 years ago, feels more modern than contemporary cinema. Today we get hollowed out imitations stripped of all the humanity that have none of the emotional sincerity or interest in the characters, which are observed condescendingly from above under the guise of empathy.

The line up is so good!! It’s going to take a lot of willpower to resist booking a flight to Marrakech (incidentally, I have time off for US Thanksgiving).

Philippe Lesage’s Who By Fire is to Québec in the same way that Michael Roemer’s films are to New England: the location is a character in it self. Loved the ensemble cast, Balthazar Lab’s cinematography is gorgeous (shot digitally, with Panavision lenses from the 70s). Watched on Apple TV.

In memory of Terence Stamp, I’m sharing this fascinating documentary where I learned that he and Francis Bacon were lovers and that their relationship had a great influence on the art direction of Pasolini’s Teorema.

More scientific inquiry needs to be done about bullshit. There is so much of it being produced every day that the sheer mass of it transcends the metaphysical into the tangible, kind of like a hygroelectric charge. Maybe it too can be harnessed — into manure, for example & sold to farmers.

A Palestinian activist who helped film the "No Other Land" documentary, Awdah Hathaleen, was shot and killed by an Israeli settler on Monday. Locals identified the killer as Yinon Levi, who was sanctioned by the U.S. and the EU for “regularly leading groups of violent extremists” in the West Bank.

Some people might find this blasphemous but The Age of Innocence is a much better adaption of Edith Wharton’s writing than The House of Mirth. It’s also a superior film on a technical level; the latter looks like it was made for television.

Yeah, Bergman was nuts but contemporary filmmakers covertly peddling right wing propaganda are much more concerning and should be called out by the media instead of a crazy old man whose been dead for 20 years.
