Not only is this dickish but it is incredibly performative. Dude was mayor of San Francisco. I guarantee you, as a former constituent, that he is extremely well-versed in trans issues.

Additionally, learning about her reputation among DC press makes me rethink a lot of the sourcing of the BTS pieces that appeared when Kamala dropped out in 202o and whose tone colored so much of her coverage as VP

Of course, Trump will be claiming they chose an American Pope because thanks to him, America is respected again yada yada.

Let me rephrase that... In a Democratic Presidential campaign.

I thought at least politically in tune folks all knew and now I realize his downside potential is even larger than I thought. It is not a rumor or anything. It was a legitimate well publicized fully reported scandal from his time as mayor.

And that I dont think "He slept with his campaign manager's wife" can be overcome as an encapsulation of someone's character in a Presidential campaign.

It was a risk for later career, but lasting only one term as mayor would have been too!

However, Newsom's usually response to the accusations he is poll-tested is BS. He was a rather unpopular (hotel worker strike he mishandled) new mayor of SF when he decided to conduct SSM, which made him VERY popular locally. It was politically helpful for him, not a huge act of courage!

He is taking a path similar to Nate Silver in that he is becoming what he was purporting to denounce when he started.

A related controversial take of mine is that buying into lies and conspiracy theories is also, at some level, a choice.
It's easy to look stuff up. I googled "is crime really up or down," and the first page has the answer (down). Not bothering to do that, or willfully rejecting it, are both choices.
yes

I also think we need to hold them accountable for either

a) not caring enough to find the truth instead of accepting the propaganda
b) choosing to be "low info" voters
My most controversial take about the 2024 election is that Trump voters are adults with agency who made a voluntary choice, and most backed him because they saw what he offers and like it.

I remember the Dem Bros who tagged Schumer's tweet welcoming the
Demographic firsts in the newly elected Senators as a perfect example of why Dems Lost and I realized how much progress IS simply assholes pretending to be allies

That's the premise of one of the SAW movies.

I know that makes me a conspiracy theorist but I have (figuratively) money down on Kamala-unfriendly Anita Dunn being the "high level operative in a Harris-allied PAC" that was quoted all campaign long s...ting on the campaign. And having her fingerprints on some bad decisions above.

I am not enough of an expert in Canadian politics to know for sure but considering how horrible Trudeau and the Liberals are polling, Trump creating an economic catastrophe, which I would usually say would help Trump-lite Poilièvre, actually gives a politically convenient escape route to Trudeau

Not nearly as much as the one who did take the Seat obviously. But yeah.

It is also interesting how many commenters make a reference to her 2019 fun in the replies. Seems a lot of people, including in media, have stayed stuck in that narrative, which also colored her coverage as VP
