I made a hooked rug as a tribute to a survivor, Zitkala-Sa, a Lakota Sioux whose story was an incredible example of resilience, talent, and perserverence, and should inspire us all. She was called Red Bird.

#ArtAdventCalendar 19: 'Just Marbelous'. An exercise in hooking what I saw using my dad’s marble collection. The flat black background wool required bright light to hook, so this rug sat in ‘time out’ between the two dates on the rug (1997 and 2014). 15 inches by 20 inches. Whipped in 2018.
A rectangular hooked (running-loop-stitch) rug of various-size vintage and antique marbles, all different but with most colours repeating, scattered over a black background and teal-blue border. This was hand-hooked using leftover strips of varying width (given to me by Regina ‘Babe’ Jones), yarn of varying fibres, metallic-laminated-wool, and upcycled wool flannel from vintage clothing, on a cotton monks-cloth foundation.
