So relieved to see someone else have this thought! This was my first reaction too.

There are search engines now that let us toggle their genAI off.

Additional to the mass-theft of intellectual property without credit or compensation, let’s not forget the massive cost to the environment. Every “ignored AI preview” is still burning the planet.

I agree, I think it's often intentional too. If it's ignorance, we need to have the conversations to overcome it, but it's so hard to know when it's a genuine lack of knowledge or someone being a dick :'D

It was their Christmas email last year. They used genAI to make a whole album of songs, and included a press statement about it that mocked the mass-theft of intellectual property that made it possible 🙃
They since issued an apology on their message boards, but... ugh. I haven't trusted them since.

I was so mad at and disappointed in WaniKani after their genAI Christmas letter, I couldn't bring myself to even open the website afterwards. I need to pick up my studies again, though; I had a good habit developed, which is sadly now gone.

I switched to Vivaldi a couple of years ago because of their stance against genAI. It was a huge relief to find a browser whose developers openly acknowledged the environmental and ethical side of it alongside the privacy. I've been really happy with the browser so far.

If genAI shit is now integrated with spell check in some programs, we need to talk about it, sure. But nobody is saying we need to go back to checking every word we write with an actual dictionary.

Is it just me who thinks this is silly? Is it just me who thinks that -- by context -- dragging scientific LLMs and spell check into the argument is unnecessary and obfuscating? It is so obvious to me that the conversation is about the use of generative AI in any stage of the writing process.

I don’t understand how or why this happened in the first place. Are they testing us to see when we stop fighting back?!

It’s so a meaninglessly vague, too. Do they mean GAI covers are ok? Swathes of text? “Idea workshopping”? Mood boards?

This ain't it, SFWA. By allowing LLM tools "at any point during the writing process" you are allowing verified social, ecological, and individual harms to be part of the Nebula Awards. Shame on you.

Wow no. Who thought this was a good idea!?

Please, authors, credit your cover artists and designers.

Now, if I'm interested in a book, I search the author first. If I can't find a cover credit or any kind of statement against genAI, I'm way less likely to buy your book.
