A SUPERIOR ITERATION OF THE TECHNOLOGY
Photograph of a Propert Swift Whip rotary egg beater held aloft, vertically and inverted, at an elevation symbolic of my appreciation. It is a robust yet stylish object, a synergy of form and function, lustrous steel offset by the tastefully minimal yet ergonomic curves of turned wooden handles. The drive wheel — the engine of the beast — is ringed in evenly spaced hemispherical nodules that perfectly, oh so satisfyingly, mesh with indents at the top of each beater. The World Wide Web tells me it was manufactured here in Australia in the 1950s. No other egg beater I’ve ever used can compare.

Look at this beautiful bouquet of allergens 🌿
A bouquet of many different wild grass seed heads on long stems, held out by my hand. Some are feathery, some dangly, some spiky. Some are not really grasses at all — they’re seed heads from a wild flowering plant that the bees love. The joke here is that all of these have been picked from my backyard, which I — with all my chronic health garbage and burnout — have not been able to deal with.

カービングナイフ arrived today. So begins my new life of whittling.
A carving knife lying on the seat of a chair. It has a nice thick wooden handle, good for grasping firmly, and a stubby little blade. The kanji character 彩 is burned into the handle above the word IRODORI. It means “colouring, colour scheme, embellishment.” A vertical sticker reads カービングナイフ — carving knife. The knife has a leather case with a brass snap, which is also on the chair. The chair is upholstered in a pale seaglass green fleur-de-lis velvet.
