Nobody wanted to be Lowell unless we were also playing out scenes from McLean Hospital, where all three poets had been patients albeit at different times. That didn't stop our little imaginations from running wild, creating scenarios of the three meeting in the psych ward!

When I was a child of about 6 or 8 my pals and I would play make-believe. Our most common scene was Lowell's 1959 writing seminar at Boston U. Me and the neighbor kids would fight over who would get to be Plath, who would get to be Sexton.
