It's plausible that “hey, it's Christmas” would be an old joke among space farers to celebrate being outside a half lightyear sphere around the solar system.

Note that the sentence is actually “I support PA prisoners.” What’s supposed to be illegal is supporting PA, not supporting individual prisoners. They are arresting anyone who is calling attention to the hunger strikers.
