Can we still limit warming to 1.5°C by the end of the century?

At #COP30, leaders are discussing this—but are we doing enough? @elliej.bsky.social breaks down a 1.5°C scenario using the #EnROADS Simulator, including what it would take and what’s at stake.👇 www.climateinteractive.org/blog/1-5degc...

I’m really surprised this isn’t bigger news. Just under 10 million people live in Tehran. Where can they go? Where else in Iran will have enough water? This will undoubtedly strain the country’s and the region’s politics, finances and governance capacity.

From where I sit, reporting from afar, this year's COP started to get a little more real. Adaptation metrics, roadmaps, critical minerals, the notion of overshoot — regardless of the outcome, which is TBD, this is much more nitty gritty stuff than in the past. heatmap.news/climate/cop3...

One of the unacknowledged advantages of this awful era is that it's revealing for all to see the putrid connections between great wealth and great power.

The intentions of the oligarchs are fully exposed and more blatant than ever.

But remember: We outnumber the oligarchs.

Siberian Traps (252 million years ago): 0.02–0.13 gigatons of CO₂ per year, over ~300,000–500,000 years

Everyone’s talking about Steve Bannon saying Trump will be president in 2028. But here’s the point most are missing: He’s openly floating treason and civil war.

“Seizing institutions and purging them.” Isn’t rhetoric, it’s a test to see how far Trump’s followers will go.

From me in @lpeblog.bsky.social today:

The lesson of the US investment in Intel is "public capital without accountability. The result is not sovereign wealth but corporate capture—an arrangement that entrenches incumbent power while eroding the state’s ability to direct economic development."
Today, @jamesftierney.bsky.social argues that the government's recent $8.9 billion equity investment in Intel represents a new model of American state capitalism: one that entrenches corporate power while foreclosing more democratic and effective alternatives.

While some have cast the U.S. government’s $8.9 billion equity stake in Intel as the first step on the road to socialism, upon closer examination it looks more like a distinctive form of American…
