Weird… People block fast on Bluesky. It’s probably PTSD, where the T stands for Twitter.

You’re the expert! They’re definitely tracking us and spying on us, but listening seems to be way ineffective - and Siri isn’t even great at it! As for Alexa/Bezos, I wound be so sure :)
(Also, I misgendered the poster I initially quoted)

The skeet (?) I shared was reposted by Alex Goldman, formerly of Reply All, and he investigated something similar in an old episode: gimletmedia.com/shows/reply-...
#109 Is Facebook Spying on You? | Reply All
This year we’ve gotten one question from listeners more than any other: is Facebook eavesdropping on my conversations and showing me ads based on the things that I say? This week, Alex investigates.

I’m sure the case is more complex, and I’m glad there are efforts to hold these companies accountable; I just don’t believe the conspiracy theory that our phones are listening us - our batteries would die even faster :) There are always simpler explanations, as the poster explains in his thread.

Seeing people unquestioningly repeating this and it's not true. There has never been a single bit of non-circumstantial evidence of Apple using Siri conversations for ad targeting, and the settlement is for Apple sharing recordings of accidental Siri activations with their QA subcontractors.
"The only clue that users seemingly had of Siri's alleged spying was eerily accurate targeted ads that appeared after they had just been talking about specific items like Air Jordans or brands like Olive Garden"

Many people who run or work in theatres subconsciously think of their participation department as a mouth - there to talk to the people in the local area who may not, for whatever reason, come to the theatre, or think theatre is for them.
