Huge news on Patreon! Because of the Apple v. Epic ruling, they are not only dropping the 30% Apple Store charge on the iOS app, they are also halting the move to subscription billing for all creators - which would have affected creators like me, who use a "per video" structure than monthly.
From Patreon's Discord: "Yesterday, a U.S. court ruled in the Epic v. Apple case that Apple is no longer allowed to collect fees on purchases made outside of the App Store. This is a huge victory for creators and fans. The Patreon iOS app is the number one platform for fan engagement on Patreon, and we believe this ruling allows creators to get paid without Apple taking 30% of all in-app payments. We know many creators may have questions about how this ruling will impact your Patreon communities and how you use the Patreon iOS app. We’ve been working urgently to understand what this ruling means and how to take action to ensure that you and your fans benefit as much as possible. Here’s the latest:" "We’re already working to update the Patreon iOS app to avoid Apple’s fees As a first step, we are submitting an update to the Patreon iOS app in Apple’s App Store immediately to include an option for fans to use an alternative payment method to Apple’s in-app purchasing system. Once approved by Apple, this update would mean that new members in the U.S. who make purchases in the Patreon iOS app will be able to choose a checkout option that does not include Apple’s 30% fee. Note: This pending app update, once approved and released in Apple’s App Store, will provide alternative checkout options for U.S.-based fans signing up for new memberships. At this time, this only applies for creators on subscription billing as legacy first-of-the-month and per-creation billing models are still unable to accept new membership sign ups in iOS." "The November 2025 subscription billing transition deadline is now on hold This is still a developing situation, but we are moving forward under the assumption that the November 2025 deadline for all Patreon creators to switch to subscription billing is no longer necessary. While additional information may come that alters Apple’s requirements for Patreon’s iOS app, we are optimistic that this ruling will give us additional flexibility in how we support creators on legacy billing models. However, for now, creators still need to be on subscription billing to be able to accept payments through the Patreon iOS app. For those who still want to proceed with switching to subscription billing, our team is happy to assist with the transition, since it still unlocks access to the latest growth tools on Patreon, like gifting, Autopilot and tier repricing. For creators on per-creation billing who are actively working with our support team to transition to subscription billing, our team will be in contact with you by the end of the day tomorrow, May 2nd, with next steps to confirm how you’d like to proceed." I wanted to improve on my initial attempt on this target from 2014. One of the issues was that I'd like to show the delicate 'curtain' structure of IC 434, the bright glowing hydrogen emission that the Horsehead is silhouetted against. This also prompted me to add more data to the LRGB channels as well in order to bring out the faint dust details better, so all together with last year's data I ended up with over 26 hours of data which I completely reprocessed and assembled into this updated version. I'm pleased that the result has higher resolution and more depth than last years' effort. The colours are also richer and more refined and in particular the Ha curtains now stand out above and around the Horsehead. About the image: The Horsehead Nebula (also known as Barnard 33) is without doubt one of the most recognized and fascinating objects in the sky. This iconic feature is formed by the sharp outline of a dark dust cloud, with a remarkable likeness to a horse's head, silhouetted against a brightly glowing patch of ionized Hydrogen (IC434) that is being energized by the hard ultraviolet radiation from nearby Sigma Orionis, a...

Here is link to full image on my site: www.rolfolsenastrophotography.com/…/Nebul…/i-2bG2Rtm This image is a mosaic of two panels, showing a colourful and dramatic group of nebulae nestled 5,000 light-years away among the densely packed star fields in Sagittarius. The view in this image covers multiple emission and reflection nebulae as well as many intricate dark structures that obscure and redden the light from thousands of distant background stars. The picturesque scene is located just west of its much brighter and more famous neighbour, the Lagoon Nebula. The bright magenta region that fills the majority of the right half in this image is known as IC 4685. Its broad smooth glow is broken by a starkly contrasting string of dark knots; the dark nebula Barnard 303. Near the right edge is a small intensely red Hydrogen nebula GN 18.06.6.01 and below IC 4685 lies a brighter and very colourful patch named NGC 6559. This is a combined emission and reflection nebula, where bright young stars excite surrounding Hydrogen atoms to emit a red glow, while the bright blue starlight is also reflected directly off dust particles in the cloud. Towards the bottom left are two other bright regions; the softly glowing IC 1274 and the brighter and more defined IC 1275 which is another combined emission and reflection nebula. It may be famous for hosting spectacular sights such as the Tucana Dwarf Galaxy and 47 Tucanae (heic1510), the second brightest globular cluster in the night sky, but the southern constellation of Tucana (The Toucan) also possesses a variety of unsung cosmic beauties. One such beauty is NGC 299, an open star cluster located within the Small Magellanic Cloud just under 200,000 light-years away. Open clusters such as this are collections of stars weakly bound by the shackles of gravity, all of which formed from the same massive molecular cloud of gas and dust. Because of this, all the stars have the same age and composition, but vary in their mass because they formed at different positions within the cloud. This unique property not only ensures a spectacular sight when viewed through a sophisticated instrument attached to a telescope such as Hubble’s Advanced Camera for Surveys, but gives astronomers a cosmic laboratory in which to study the formation and evolution of stars — a process that is thought to depend strongly on a star’s mass.
