Also, addressing the point "Its ecological niche still exists," yes it exists, but the niche is now occupied by other species. Once we settle on an acceptable substitute, it will take decades to restore chestnut to the landscape. But worth it, in my opinion.

Sherman Pass is a special place because of the vast expanse of larch forests. I've had the good fortune of seeing them at peak colors a few times. The banner pic in my profile was taken there on a clear day.

You've got to be very patient to get snow pictures in Linden, Texas! Once upon a time I lived a few miles up the road in the town of Atlanta. We did have a snowy winter in 1978.

I don't think that the house is all that old. Maybe 1960s. It was the guest house for a ranch until they made it into an Airbnb.
