Just a board game and music composer hobbyist who likes ranting his honest opinions like an old man.
Played WINGSPAN many moons ago and thought it was fine. This is definitely much better but I still feel its a little bit overbaked. IMO, the round objectives are meh, wish guilds had a bit more going and the game is a round too long IMO. However, I wouldn't mind playing this game now 7/10

If you like scrabble but don't like the vocab aspect, get this. If dominos, mah-jong and scrabble had a baby this is what you get. Never played the original but it is essentially the same game but the white/black diagonal scoring adds more flexibility yet decision complex 8/10.

Finally got to play as 3P for the first time. Never played the second edition either. The bidding system is brilliant but I somehow expected a more epic game in my head for a game that is surprisingly tame in comparison to my other area control games. I like and want to play more 7-7.510.

SOLO first impressions (two plays): really enjoyable. The AI is pretty easy to manage and breezy for the most part. It feels like Istanbul (but lighter) with a set collection aspect + engine building of century/splendor. A great game to introduce first before Istanbul IMO. 7-7.5/10.

A very nice gateway to Splendor (feels weird saying that). If I had non-gamer friends with low rules tolerance, I would introduce this first, play a few games then introduce splendor. A game I'll play a few times and forget for a while but would play again. 7.5-8/10.

The expansion adds a welcome change that makes it a bit more freeing however with some caveats. If you thought the original was 'almost there' give this one a shot. If you didn't like the original at all, or/and don't like solitaire puzzles avoid this 8/10.

@level99games.com This is definitely my underrated game of the year. This is how you do asymmetrical powers without feeling overwhelming. My gripes are mostly small production issues and filling the meeples after devouring is fiddly for me so I've house ruled it. 8.5/10

NEKOJIMA: I haven't played a lot of dexterity stacking games except for Jenga so take my word with a grain of salt. This game replaces Jenga for me however it is a game I would play only once in a while. The picture should tell you if this game is for you or not.. 8/10.

It's been ages since I played this underrated gem. Feels like an opportunistic Stefan Feld game with the usual duo fare. My only complain is it probably slightly overstays its welcome, but counteracts end game scoring being breezy. The theme did not unfortunately attract my friend lol 8.5/10.

Unmatched the board game feels like a really nice EXCEED light . Originally wasn't planning to get into it, but the CO-OP expansion and better accessibility changed my mind. Always a good time, even if the choices aren't the deepest. 8/10

I'm not familiar with the source material at all. But I can FEEL the love and thought HIDEKI ANNO put in this movie and you can tell he is a TRUE FAN of the source material. IMO this is how you do a remake because it feels nostalgic but has enough nuances to feel ANNO-like. Watching it again 9/10

This show is an absolute mess. Inconsistent pacing, full of plot holes and a director who thinks adding a homage here and there makes this kamen rider black but completely misses the point why this show is special. When your main character is a side character you done fucked it up. 3/10

Get bit is such a charming game that I dismissed early in my hobby journey due to thinking it was too simple. But the amount of smiles and laughter this game brings if you come along the ride is great. Hilarious that the AI won in our game 8/10

Still prefer the original but nice that both can exist in my collection. However, I think it needs an expansion to liven things up as the specialist feel too samey for me and would like more flexibility for a game about discovering. Solo is a bit unbalanced IMO 7/10

Ericlang.bsky.social when is this game going to be reprinted?! This is my definition of an UNDERRATED gem. 9/10 one of my favourite social deductions.

If you have the first edition already, probably not a necessary upgrade. However, the gameplay changes are great. I have both, and I don't regret getting this copy. The art is on par with the original IMO. One of my favourite games especially If you liked games like Tokaido. 9/10

Probably my second favourite game this year right next to Bomb Busters and is really a great companion if you like games like Perudo/Liars dice. I have never played can't stop and I'm curios how that game compares to this game. But this is a solid 8.5/10. Already bought the mini expansion!

@ericlang.bsky.social pumped to try this out soon!

A good (though not great) 2P version of KOT. The buzz tokens could have been left out IMO. Tug of war tracks are good, but I think a single chase track like 7W: LOTR style would have been better to add another die face option. It also loses some of the luster in a 2P form. But give it a try 7/10.

A lot of people prefer DUEL over this. But the simplicity of SPLENDOR needs to be appreciated because DUEL has lot more rules and thinking involved which can halt games especially for newbies. The re-done expansion pack also speeds up the game and have really enjoyed :) 8/10.

I don't remember if I reviewed this game or not. Either way, it's a really fun though VERY SWINGY more family friendly version of 7W. High RNG draw might deter some players, and science is a bit OP IMO. I have yet to try this out with the expansion to see if it controls SWINGS a bit 8/10.
February 26, 2025 at 4:13 PM
An absolute classic and still one of my favourites. Unapologetically aggressive with the camel swapping and definitely best as a best of 3 (or 5!). The only downside is the token counting, the RNG draw swings, no-catch up mechanisms might deter a lot of care-bear players. 9/10.

finally got to play this game and really LOVED it! I know lots of people are saying 'my little blood rage' - but if anything, it feels more like 'my little ankh'. To me, this feels like ANKH wanted to be in terms dynamic area control shifting. 9/10

Finally got to play this game albeit solo a few times (around 3 different scenarios). Is it the deepest game? NO, it's the definition of a BEER & PRETZELS game. But the plug and play aspect is fantastic. Rulebook could be much better and a couple of card effect hiccups. So far, a 7-7.5/10 as a SOLO.

HOLY CRAP, Emmerson Matsuuchi IS THE MAN! He actually replicated the PSYCHO MANTIS MGS1 boss fight in board game version. Just this experience alone was absolutely worth the price of admission. Absolutely WELL DONE! 10/10 my hats off to you sir.
