the face / the summer scent / the winter scent

Also, taking screencaps for this, was really struck by how much Blatty loved telling a story with set dressing. So many shots lingering over a desk or a wall or an ashtray while someone talks. Feels kind of writerly, but in a way that I actually really dig.

Exorcist 3 absolutely rips. It's got its rough edges (Kinderman's dream, the pacing) but it's also got some great heights (the hallway sequence, the visuals, the carp!). I feel like I've been seeing people bite the visuals in this for years and years, even excluding Clock Tower.

On the plus side though I got a copy of Siren for a reasonable price so I’m set for Halloween gaming 😌

The FMV games exhibit at the retro gaming con had the same MYST hat I was wearing on display in the exhibit. Gonna crumble into old old dust brb

Watched From Beyond for the first time - truly the single goopiest movie I've ever seen. So much slime, blood, ooze, and goop in every scene. The gelatin budget on this thing must've been *insane*. A little Hellraiser, a little Prince of Darkness, a whole lot Looney Tunes.

Finally arrived at that brief window where I can comfortably wear a nice wool jacket outside

Genuinely really enjoying Baby Steps and think it might somehow be one of my favorite games of 2025? It’s very abrasive in a lot of ways, but it’s also the most pleasantly game-like thing I’ve run into in a while. Nothing matters, so why not climb a tree to get a dumb hat?

Love that Bats (1999) goes full fuck-it mode for the climax and decides to interpret the script's setting (bottom of a mine shaft, activating an ultra-high-powered refridgeration unit) through the lens of an outer space picture. You can't tell me this shit isn't made with remnants from Armageddon.

Gotta eat a giant plate of chongquing chicken every once in a while to remind your tastebuds who’s boss

I am, as they say, back on my bullshit

Watched HOT MILLIONS (1968) last night and don't ask me to explain it but Ustinov and Smith have the same kind of sweet domestic relationship energy as Marge and Norm from FARGO (1996) that is extremely (emotionally) hot to me

Hi, I’m at a cabin in the woods (non-spooky)

Picked up a Polaroid for an upcoming road trip, which is officially my first real film camera.

I’m officially Not Good at it so far but looking forward to improving ✌️

I find synths in general very craveable as little technological artifacts that I have no real use for - but this one is especially craveable. Acoustic synthesizer? Videos of designer-customized prototypes? Whooo boy do I want this thing bad

Four favorites from the 2020s so far. Look, I don't like that there's a Netflix movie on there either, but this is the world that we live in

did a reread of Neuromancer for the first time since college and how is this the first time that my dumb ass is realizing that the visuals for the hacking scenes from Hackers are directly referencing the straylight run

they literally refer to the target system as the Gibson

anyway, still holds up

Between the Marathon reveal and more GitS teasers, a certain brand of retrofuturism sicko is eating good this weekend

THE COOK, THE THIEF, HIS WIFE AND HER LOVER... damn. What a picture. I was expecting something great after DROWNING BY NUMBERS but Helen Mirren is really, really good in this. Maybe an all-timer for me?

Moving pictures, man. What an invention!
