The list is out!! Liar, rat, buffoon, gurrier, corner boy (or girl?), scoundrel, fascist, smuggler, communist, and yahoo…some of the terms of endearment banned in the Dáil! #aginsintbréaga Moment of truth: Did Taoiseach accuse McDonald of lying?
Mary Lou McDonald complained that the Taoiseach accused her of ‘telling lies’. yesterday. Thankfully, TDs can avoid being confused about what they can and can't say by reading the Dáil Standing Orders, writes Political Correspondent Paul Cunningham
Moment of truth: Did Taoiseach accuse McDonald of lying?
The Roman Emperor and Stoic philosopher Marcus Aurelius coined many a memorable phrase, including: "Be not careless in deeds, nor confused in words, nor rambling in thought."

So Ireland joins Samoa, Indonesia & DRC in the club of countries where only 20% of Cabinet members are women (UNwomen.org). Meanwhile, our neighbours in Finland, Belgium, Portugal, Norway, Iceland, Netherlands & Spain, all have gender balanced Cabinets (at least 50%).

We caught up with lots of our newly-elected TDs on the plinth as they arrived in Leinster House, to hear what today means to them. They include the only TD born this century; several first-timers; a married couple; some with parents who were TDs & a few just delighted to be back! #34thDáil

Thank you, Irish Katie. I knew there had to be a reasonable explanation. My Irish grandfather would have been thrilled to learn that his grandson had finally made something of himself, though

Rain or shine…I’m voting more women this time!
And we’ve never had a greater choice - with a record number of women candidates in #GE24. Time for the voices & expertise of more women in the Dáil🗳️☔️🗳️

Great news! 🫣😱🙄Ireland has jumped 2 places on the global list for women in parliaments. We’re now at no.102 (behind China, Iraq, Mongolia). Ireland, it seems, likes the decisions for us all to be taken by men (77% in last Dáil) Let’s change this today? Let’s #VoteMoreWomen
November 29, 2024 at 10:28 AM
I wish gender wasn’t an issue in #GE24, but with so few women making the decisions for us all in our Parliament it absolutely is! Ireland lags at no. 104 in the world for women in parliaments (behind such beacons of democracy as China, South Sudan, Turkmenistan..) Ireland, let’s #VoteMoreWomen
