A large mosasaur finds a meal in a Komoksodon kwutchakuth. Named in honour of the K'ómoks people of BC and the word for shark, kwutchakuth, in the Comox language. The diving birds are Maaqwi cascadensis whose fossils were found on Hornby Island here in BC. Ma'aqwi means "water bird" in Coast Salish.

Panderichthys!, an "example" of our ancestors before getting out of the water, with more ossified/muscled fins (arms) to support its weight in land (quick #paleoart commission)

Your grand-grand-grand-Mama had to goon to this 💔

A lot of older #paleoart depicts benthic animals like trilobites as essentially the exact same chocolate-brown color as the fossils. Looking at living animals, there is much more variety and I think our depictions should try to reflect that

Though not the full thing, this is the best quality image I could find of a mural made by Clarence Schumaker. It depicts the Arundel Formation and the diverse vertebrate fauna known from it.

A comprehensive overview of the wonderful world of pulp pterosaurs! Artwork like this was instrumental in shaping the general public’s view of prehistoric life, often being the only imagery most people saw! The science is light but the style is truly incomparable, it’s really lovely stuff.

Ok, so this is (I think) a first for BSky... I'm going to try and produced a megathread on #PrehistoricPlanet, specifically season 2. Previous megathreads at BSky have not worked the way they should so I'm a bit cautious. But here we go, please be patient as these take an age to put together....
