Was looking for another picture from the same magazine which I didn't find but I did come across this picture

I had a 1989 Toyota Conquest 16 Valve Sport from 1994-99. I loved that car. I'd wash and polish it multiple times a week. It was such a fun car to drive and I think looked cool too. Nowadays Toyotas are pretty uninspiring and here they seem way overpriced.

To me I have fond memories of Ceasers Palace. Seeing my first F1 hero (Jones) win in 81 and my third (Villeneuve being my second) Rosberg being crowned WDC a year later. Coincidentally it was the 5th place finisher each time who became champion.

I see your point and I think back in 94 when the "Strategy Formula" began we expected it to mix things up. I think because we were used to many zero stop races (pre-94) where one driver (with nothing to lose) would take a gamble and pit and then suddenly he's catching the leader. Estoril 86 for one

But history will teach us that that teams in most cases will crunch the numbers and all come up with the same strategy and it also will eliminate a driver switching to a one stop when everyone presumes it's a 2 stop which can often provide a bit of excitement.

I think it's a substitute while dirty air and similar performance reduces overtakes. You are right so. There have been so many cases where a battle was starting on track only for one car to pit.

By the way any mention of mandatory pitstops might set me off on a bit of a rant. Just giving you a heads up

Maybe make sprint races 45 minutes and as mentioned above only allow pitstops for punctures, damage and to change from drys to wets or vice versa. Think that would be more interesting

The only good thing about the sprint races is there's no pit strategy. You can keep an eye on the gaps between drivers without them all becoming meaningless when the drivers pit.

Give them one set of tyres and let them race on the track. Allow pitstops only for punctures and damage. Am I the only one who wants to see actual racing and not a strategy game? FFS it's driving me insane

For the life of me I don't understand how more pitstops is supposed to increase overtaking. It is more likely to reduce overtaking as instead of risking a pass on track drivers and teams will try their luck with the under/overcut. Is it racing or 17 men changing 4 wheels we're supposed to b watching

Unless you're doing a 2 lap race behind the SC

I echo Monsieur Ghost's thoughts. I really tried to get into it and watched consistently most of the Gen 2 races until they had like 5 races in a week at the same track in Berlin during Covid. Ultimately it just doesn't excite me, I don't get the feeling of my nerves on edge like with F1

FIA adamant, one way or another, on enforcing a mandatory 2 stops 🚮
