It’s hard raising your head above the parapet - we've lost one of our own.

We all have fond memories of Dr Al Majid or, as known to friends, Sulay. He remains a respected former committee officer.

May he rest in peace.

This is awfully sad. Sulay’s contribution will not be forgotten.

Rest in peace, Sulay.
We are saddened to hear of the passing of Dr Sulaymaan Al Majid, our former Co-Chair.

We offer our sincere condolences to Dr Al Majid’s family and friends.

We’re hugely grateful for his efforts in standing up for thousands of northern doctors between 2022-24.

Backpay arrives this week for residents. It is years overdue. This win is a recognition of our value.

None of us wanted to strike, but after 15 years of pay erosion we had few options.

Remember the freezing pickets and the rallies. This win was because we all acted.

Graphics from @rcoanews.bsky.social today.

Surgery needs an anaesthetist.

We have record waiting lists yet we throttle the number of anaesthetists we train.

We then ask them to reapply for their own job midway through training.

Govt must fix this catastrophe as part of any NHS recovery strategy.

Sobering.

We note that the North East is the only region in the UK where the number of senior anaesthetists has decreased.

Yet, the North East oozes talented doctors wanting to pursue an anaesthetic career.

The only way to bring waiting lists down is to fix the bottleneck, particularly in the NE.
Sobering from @rcoanews.bsky.social with this new report.

Rising senior anaesthetic gaps nationally.

1.4 million operations not happening.

Thousands of qualified doctors want to pursue anaesthetics can’t (3520 for just 540 training jobs).

The bottleneck needs fixed!

Child poverty means poorer educational attainment as well as poorer physical and mental health both now and in later life.

Investment in these kids and their families is much needed.

Every credit to @kimmcguinness.bsky.social for championing this - £55m to give these children a better start 👏

#BlueSky is breaking through in Newcastle.

I said it on the other place but let it be known on here that it is undoubtedly the best city in the UK.

That is all, happy Sunday!

Genuinely pleased to see this today.

However in the north, we are expecting the NENC’s decision around a possible regional rate cap soon.

We’re watching both this dispute & NENC’s decision extremely closely.

P.S. bringing @bmanorthernrrdc.bsky.social over here too!

He’ll come for the 1st amendment.

He’ll come for the 22nd amendment.

He’ll continue to radicalise.

He’ll come for minorities.

He has no restraints.

We, now more than ever, need to turn to Europe and recognise we are better together 🇪🇺

Everyone saying “no we can’t let the NHS use a proper joined up digital patient database, it’s all part of a plot to privatise British healthcare and sell your data” should be forced to read the dozens (hundreds?) of case studies like these www.bbc.co.uk/news/health-...
