A lovely book about identity and one's place in the world. There is a depth of applaudably organic worldbuilding and very genuine and heartfelt character interactions and dynamics.
A profoundly human story.

I imagine the curly rock formation in the middleish to be the spikes of a GIGANTIC snake that's been sleeping beneath the surface for hundreds of years, and that the red "sand" is its shed skin.

Has clear and heavy Berserk inspiration but also a strong identity of its own. The characters, art style, world, action - everything is just🔥

I have had no battery for a WHILE now and feel a little scummy for doing this after being absent so long, buuuut
I have TWO Halloween-themed books out! One is a brisk, whimsical novella, and the other is a deeply emotional adventure featuring magic and chickens

The opening was a little ehhh (granted they had an extremely difficulty situation to navigate) and that there are a few moments of narrative/structural convenience, but the core of what this season is is really good I think
Also I didn't realize Hamlish Linklater was here too lmao

Really, really good! I'm sure everything writing and direction-wise has already been talked about in places much more suited to nuanced analysis, so I'll use my remaining space to say Hamish Linklater is a generational talent. Just phenomenal acting with so much range.

I watched S1 a while back and thought it was mediocre and forgot about the 2nd. Coming back to it, it's better than S1. Has BIG sagging middle syndrome, which is unfortunate since there's only 6 episodes lol. Starts very strong, ends decently.
The movies are still better.

First watched this when I was 7, in a dark garage with my older sister and stepsister, and it was the most terrifying experience of my life
Watching it last night, I'm pleasantly surprised at how well it held up! Takes a little suspension of disbelief but really fun

Movie: I'm a big fan of the Wolf Creek movies (tho 1 and 2 feel very different, not in a bad way), and thought the show was just okay.
Show: All of us Are Dead is one of the best pieces of zombie media I've ever seen.

It's actually not even funny how much better this is than the movie. I liked the movie, but this is better and more realized in literally EVERY single way.

When Grandma disappears, ten-year-old Alex goes searching and stumbles into a new world, one that is a dangerous magical reflection of her own. Giant talking chickens, hungry night creatures, a tyrannical rooster, and a dark witch wait for her on the other side.

It's been real, everyone.

A certain devious shapeshifting fox plays a few tricks on the flock. He knows how to get under their skin and divert attention where he needs it.
As for treats, the gang enjoys a tea break partway through the journey.

Alex would go as Alice from Alice in Wonderland! If you plan on reading Fowl Blade, remember this. Little Easter Egg.
