My book is out!

When Grandma disappears, ten-year-old Alex goes searching and stumbles into a new world, one that is a dangerous magical reflection of her own. Giant talking chickens, hungry night creatures, a tyrannical rooster, and a dark witch wait for her on the other side.
Latest read by @cblansdell.bsky.social! Specifically I listened to the audiobook.
A lovely book about identity and one's place in the world. There is a depth of applaudably organic worldbuilding and very genuine and heartfelt character interactions and dynamics.
A profoundly human story.

Think I'm calling it for this morning's writing. My brain is NOT braining well.
I attempted to write a prologue. It went terribly, but I DID get a ton of great ideas that I know I can iron out into something really, really strong.
924 mediocre words is a lot better than 0 words.

It's nearly 2:30am, and I'm giving up on trying to sleep. I'll just go through Thursday in a state of delirium. I'm with you for today, #5amwritersclub. Best of luck to you all.

Intermediate phase of my new WIP's map 🧐
I imagine the curly rock formation in the middleish to be the spikes of a GIGANTIC snake that's been sleeping beneath the surface for hundreds of years, and that the red "sand" is its shed skin.

I’ve known fizzy a long time and can attest this book is clearly a well conceived labor of love. It’s chickens and swords, and just as fucking awesome as that sounds. 🐓+⚔️=👀

Something that's been missing from my writing life is high fantasy. Fowl Blade has some elements, but I've been depriving myself of writing super flashy magic systems, cool weapons with cool names, and epic larger-than-life battles.

Fixing that now ⌨️✌️

On a whim, I started reading the Claymore manga because it's been on a radar for a while, and oh my god I am completely in love with this series.
Has clear and heavy Berserk inspiration but also a strong identity of its own. The characters, art style, world, action - everything is just🔥

Happy Halloween!

I have had no battery for a WHILE now and feel a little scummy for doing this after being absent so long, buuuut

I have TWO Halloween-themed books out! One is a brisk, whimsical novella, and the other is a deeply emotional adventure featuring magic and chickens

This book is SUCH an experience. It had me staying up super late because I just couldn't stop reading.
It's still October!

Why not try a queer horror comedy that doesn't skimp on any of the three?

A cryptid-hunting skeptic follows a (fake?) video of his presumed-dead mom to a former conversion camp on an isolated island, all while fleeing the "straight" co-host he drunkenly made out with.

#FantasyIndiesSpooktober day 21: Scary movie/TV show recs

Movie: I'm a big fan of the Wolf Creek movies (tho 1 and 2 feel very different, not in a bad way), and thought the show was just okay.

Show: All of us Are Dead is one of the best pieces of zombie media I've ever seen.

Fowl Blade releases in a single digit number of hours. Before that wall goes down, I want to thank everyone who's engaged with this process in any way, in any capacity, and made it feel seen. This story means so much to me, and more than anything else, I want to share it with the world.

This is the final day that we'll ever exist in a world without Fowl Blade.

It's been real, everyone.

#FantasyIndiesSpooktober day 16: Tricks and/or treats

A certain devious shapeshifting fox plays a few tricks on the flock. He knows how to get under their skin and divert attention where he needs it.

As for treats, the gang enjoys a tea break partway through the journey.

#FantasyIndiesSpooktober day 15: What would your character wear to a Halloween Ball?

Alex would go as Alice from Alice in Wonderland! If you plan on reading Fowl Blade, remember this. Little Easter Egg.

Fun fact: Martin is named after the person who originally gave me the idea for Fowl Blade. What a nice way of honoring him, huh? To name him after one of the most detestable characters 😌IRL Martin is a swell guy, though.
#FantasyIndiesSpooktober day 14: Villain's henchmen

The general of the dark witch's army is Martin of the Spurs, The Dawn Shredder. "He who shouts down the sun. His cry is the call of the night creatures, and each night when he summons them, they come to take what is ours."
