In the failed state of California in the overrun city of Los Angeles today I drove my mom to the airport, got some coffee with a friend, got the kids from school and worked on some podcast edits. Thank god the United States Military will be sent in to shoot unarmed civilians. This cannot hold.

I know it's not very helpful, but I find myself thinking about those who criticized Nature's and Scientific American's Harris endorsement on the grounds that "science should stay out of politics." I think about those people quite a lot.

Obviously norms don't mean what they used to, but I'd like to remind my colleagues that the President's budget request for NASA is usually laughed out of the room by Congress regardless of the president. Call your reps, remind them NASA money provides jobs in their district.

A tricky thing about modern society is that no one has any idea when they don’t die.

Like, the number of lives saved by controlling air pollution in America is probably over 200,000 per year, but the number of people who think their life was saved by controlling air pollution is zero.

Apparently, Trump has problems with the US position as a world leader in science, or he's totally clueless, or both. If foreign scientists start avoiding US conferences, the damage will be immense and enduring.
