WOW: @miamiherald.com reveals that a person imprisoned in El Salvador had LEGAL REFUGEE STATUS.

He entered the USA legally in January and was detained because of his tattoos, EVEN THOUGH he had previously passed a full background check.

Without warning, he was sent to El Salvador on March 15.

There may be 1.5 million Syrian refugees in Lebanon. Those forces in Europe who are cheering Israel on will also refuse to accept the movement of those refugees to Europe on the grounds that they are safe where they are.

Interesting piece by m EU rule of law expert. Argues new hard-right Dutch govt’s fixation on declaring asylum state of emergency is the start of a systematic effort by Geert Wilders to dismantle the rule of law, Orban-style, so that opposing political forces can be crippled.

And here is the govt summary of the International Humanitarian Law “process, decision & factors taken into account”. Does not disclose underlying legal advice. (That is normal and unsurprising)

Very striking how much of a gap has opened up between left and right in concern over immigration.

Look at the average and it’s “Britons are getting pretty concerned about immigration”.

Split by party and it becomes “Some Britons are now extremely concerned about immigration, others much less so”.

Unsurprising but still disturbing that asylum seekers who make valid complaints about their living conditions are at risk of being made homeless.

I came to the UK as an Afghan refugee. The far-right riots remind me of the hatred I fled
As thousands of counter-protesters took to the streets last week to defend immigrants and minority communities, I felt hope seeing many stand for tolerance and acceptance
