There are many good science fiction novels. Not a single one that I have read delivers a happy vision of the future in which aged right-wing billionaires control the media.

By the way, important to recognize that Michael Schmidt wrote both these pieces and it’s not crazy to think his line today was directed at his own editors as much as anyone else
The New York Times today: "Many of the stark warnings ... - which were issued loudly during the presidential campaign by the people who had once sought to restrain the president - have proved true."

The New York Times when those warnings were issued: "Put it on A12"

A lot of us have felt overwhelmed this year, watching those in power doing everything they can to take even more control. But we don't have to let them get away with it. I can't wait to hear Stacey Abrams talk about this and what we can do about it! social.redwine.blue/s/hr8DxGDk

This should be a wake up call and hopefully draws some attention to Trump’s autocratic attacks against our media.

Everything that’s happened over the past six months has been a response to an imaginary crisis. There is no immigrant invasion. No trade crisis. No scientific or governance crisis. Just people completely high off their own supply trying to fundamentally reorder society. None of this had to happen.

Do you know where your birth certificate is? Millions of Americans don’t. But under the SAVE Act, providing documents like a birth certificate or passport would be required to register to vote. Send Congress a message demanding that they reject this sweeping voter restriction bill:
Tell Congress: Reject the SAVE Act
The SAVE Act could block millions of American citizens from voting.

"Health care is so expensive that 31 million U.S. adults, or 12%, had to borrow a total of $74 billion last year to obtain medical care, new data shows. That includes people with health insurance, making such numbers even more troubling."

"DOINK'D our way to Detroit!!!" is how Washington DC/Virginia is writing this up right now. Hey, everyone here will take it. Long-suffering fans are ecstatic. Local news anchors can't even contain themselves.

Hey, Virginians! The special elections tomorrow (Tuesday, January 7) will take place despite the snow. So if you're one of the districts where elections are happening, be sure to vote. We can keep the razor-thin Democratic majorities in the state legislature and further constrain the governor.
What to expect in Virginia's state legislative special elections
Three special elections could determine control of the General Assembly.
