Andrea Dworkin pointed out the irony of being told men are women's natural protectors, when they are the biggest danger. Whether women are put on a pedestal or a pyre, it's the same old patriarchy. Men & women are not different species, men are not naturally superior to women.

"Surely, the same Micheál Martin who was just a few weeks ago japing about Ireland’s housing crisis in the Oval Office with a bona fide fascist should have some empathy for statements made during a performance."

This week's Surrealing in the Years.
Surrealing in the Years: Kneecap are NOT the story. And yet.
It’s easier for powerful people to talk about Kneecap than it is for them to talk about Israel.

The UK's political and media class has spent years heaping sadism on trans people, and they want to do the same in Ireland next. Calls for civility and calm won't cut it. We need to fight them tooth and nail.

Séamas O'Reilly: Trans people have spent a decade being attacked in a moral panic
The poor provision of unisex children’s facilities— which reinforces gender stereotypes and inconveniences women and men both — was, incidentally, an issue I remember being quite talked-about a decade...

New Gist: Trans rights are Data rights

An unusually long Gist on the data protection implications of the UK Supreme Court's decision to define what is the meaning of the word 'woman' in a single UK Act.

The Gist: Trans rights are Data rights
A UK court has made a decision defining genders which has put it at odds with a less noticed, more important, decision from the CJEU. This is the Gist.

This week I wrote about vigilance, and how I'm less interested in litigating whether Garron Noone is a racist, than in whether what he said was true or not. It wasn't. And people are right to be alarmed that he said it, and to wonder why he did.

Cycling home an hour ago a guy ahead of me at the lights farted loudly and looked behind, sheepish. When he saw me there he tried to take off in embarrassment but in his haste his chain slipped off and he landed on his balls on the bar.

I wrote this on young men, and why we need to stop lying about why they're easy prey for reptiles like Andrew Tate.

Séamas O'Reilly: We need to stop lying about what makes lost boys such easy marks for cons
Economically depressed young men are aggressively targeted with the oldest, most seductive pitch there is — money for nothing — by bad faith actors with enormous wealth
