toronto got its first snow yesterday, so i've been wearing my 2021 (?) BART sweater from before they got so garish. definitely eyeing this year's sweater!

this gets at my broadest opinion about transit liveries: that any lines and borders should remain perfectly horizontal along the length of the vehicle, with the exception of high-contrast doors for accessibility. i love rows of windows joined together by a glossy black stripe across a solid colour!

had to look it up, but i prefer the existing version! again, i'm not big on gradients, though i admit this would be a fairly appropriate use for one. i like that the six thin stripes cleanly follow the train's trajectory, so they stay in place as the train moves across the field of view.

sure, i'm all for tasteful geometric patterns!

they're dressed as though black text could appear in front of them at any moment and they have to make sure they'll be an accessible high-contrast background for it

no

that's a state, not a country
November 8, 2025 at 5:59 AM
the entire US seems convinced there's a country called "columbia", so we all have our struggles
November 8, 2025 at 5:54 AM
haven't heard of it
November 8, 2025 at 4:03 AM
ooh which famous country were they from?
November 8, 2025 at 3:28 AM
i did not!

while i'm here, i'm obligated to remind you all that colombia does it best. they just tack on a letter, and the letter is included in house numbers on cross streets. but don't ask me about transversales, diagonales, or "bis"

apparently their proper names are Bo Joseph Bichette, Robert Pickering Burnham, and Joseph Robinette Biden III

similarly, many of toronto's most popular stations rely mostly on bus connections for their ridership — most strikingly warden, surrounded by fields and asphalt, which puts out something like 30k a day iirc
November 7, 2025 at 6:04 PM
fair. the ridership will tell
November 7, 2025 at 5:53 PM
your hangup on the "kissy smoochy drop offs" really doesn't make me want to listen to your great ideas
November 7, 2025 at 5:39 PM
i think the root of what we're talking about is the transit cost crisis more than it is that the silly planners didn't listen to you hard enough. given the conditions, these are reasonable decisions. if you want to direct your ire at the transit cost crisis, then do that
November 7, 2025 at 5:33 PM
did you read my next reply
November 7, 2025 at 5:29 PM
land use isn't everything, especially with the intense constraints on what we can afford to build in north america. it's ok to compromise on walkshed if you make up for it with attractive surface transit, expanding the effective catchment area of the station and its rail service
