the oldest city in nebraska lies on a grid of numbered streets, avenues, and… corsos. (corsi?)

what's more, the corsos are interrupted by a diagonal grid of numbered terraces and rues.

they expended all their creativity on this, so the city was named Nebraska City.

apparently people don't dress up for 8am lab. then again, i can't think of a better setting for my costume than a city of normal people going about their normal days.

happy halloween!

there's something vaguely australian about this core grid, too. i think it's the angle and the park belt separating it from newer suburbs, most notably seen in adelaide. i half expect the road along the park belt to be called "xyz parade"

definitely an entry in "grids i wish belonged to a big city"

just got my copy of @carterlavin.bsky.social's new book "if you want to win, you've got to fight: a guide to effective transportation advocacy", to which i contributed some diagrams.

it was rewarding to work on this and i can't wait to dig in! (once the rush of seeing my name in a real book passes)

hardly a concern in comparison to the rest of the page's content, but it took me seconds to find a wrong "it's". the writing is generally awkward and i feel like i'm in high school proofreading a peer's assignment

the sign is up at the new elevator access for lawrence station, soon to open. this only leads to the unpaid zone of the south mezzanine, so no new fare gate line here, but it's a completely separate entrance at street level. feels anomalous for a suburban TTC station!

just about a mile! as in the antelope valley, 16 ~100m blocks fit between adjacent numbers/letters as streets fill in a rural grid
