My generation went from bootlegging Shaggy’s “It Wasn’t Me” on Napster to torrenting regime-suppressed 60 Minutes segments on the US’s use of illegal torture prisons - love that for us 10/10 no notes.

Love this little history which includes some of the pagan roots of Santa and refutes that liberal scold tale that Santa is purely the invention of coca-cola. As usual visual culture is a conversation between artists and society over time drawing on a variety of influences.
Santa as we know him today — sleigh riding, gift-giving, rotund and white bearded with his distinctive red suit — only began to properly take shape early 20th century. What did he look like before this? Find out in our "Pictorial History of Santa Claus" publicdomainreview.org/collection/a...

Unfortunately, I think art might be dead this time. We had a good run, people.
In a blockbuster collaboration that literally no one on Earth wanted, Madonna partnered with Beeple to produce a series of NFTs starring a digitized version of herself graphically birthing things out of her digital vagina.
Madonna’s NFT Collab With Beeple Is a Matryoshka of Vagina Horrors
Can’t Madonna just donate to charity without making everyone look at a 3D scan of her vagina?

Gary Tyler was wrongly imprisoned for 40 years. The textile artist's work is inspired by his life
An exhibition of Tyler’s quilts captures scenes of humanity from within the notorious Louisiana State Penitentiary.

People should just follow around Republican politicians with iPads and projectors and play that jet fighter poop video on a loop around them whenever they’re in public to remind everyone what kind of people they are. Next JD Vance is gonna say the president is just a kid making edgy jokes.

Didn’t take long to get from “Tylenol causes autism” to “vaccines cause autism” - my new theory? Boomers cause autism. Autism rates have skyrocketed since they’ve been around. Keep your children away from them. Or don’t since neurodivergence isn’t a disease to be eradicated.
Highly normal. Nothing to see here, folks.

I know we are going in the opposite direction, but it would be nice in the year of our lord 2025 to have a centralized system that has all of our immunization records. My husband was laughing his ass off last night as I was peering “like Nicholas Cage in National Treasure” at an old yellow card

For a while now, I maintain a sort of fantasy, the idea that we could just leave the US. I think a lot of people of color and other marginalized folx are feeling the same way. That we are exhausted from the fight. That we want to just get away. To breathe again after lifetimes of suffocation 1/7

I know all the abolitionists have been saying that the legal system is set up to enforce white supremacy and will not save us, but it still hurts every time this happens.

Trying to wrap my mind around “US cities are crime-ridden hellscapes” as I live in a city of millions of people paying 3 times the rent in order to live here and the only crime I experience is the daily phone calls and texts attempting to commit some sort of fraud.

Guys, I have a special & unusual request today. My cousin Sean is a union bus driver here in Los Angeles who was just FIRED in retaliation for saying he would not let masked ICE agents onto his bus to abduct riders. The fight is on to get his job back, you can help: actionnetwork.org/letters/send...

The way people have become such lemmings about this is wild. I work for an arts education nonprofit that is supposed to be serving under-resourced communities (currently under siege from 🧊) and our leadership is claiming that one of our top organizational priorities is learning to use AI.
yes I am crashing out on a Monday, you were not there for the team meeting !! we fully had to talk about our "stance on ai" as a PUBLISHING COMPANY. I almost flipped my desk

Ms. Rachel is one of the bravest and most humane human beings I’ve ever had the privilege of seeing. What she’s doing is the definition of brave and I wish others had half of her inate qualities as a person.

This is how the "prisons are slavery" discourse falls flat on its face and fails. As much as the evocation resonates, as much as it (accurately) points to the historic continuum of captivity and subjugation of enslaved and colonized peoples, the US imprisons the most people on the planet...

This thread is so disturbing- I am at a loss to describe what a violation this is. This is a community space in an incredibly vulnerable community. Truly n*zi level terrorizing of the people of Los Angeles.
I’m here in MacArthur Park in Los Angeles, where military style vehicles have pulled up down Wilshire and Alvarado, amid rumors of an ICE raid in the park have proliferated since last night

I feel like people outside of LA do not understand how extreme 🧊 has become here. Every vaguely brown US citizen I know is walking around with their passport. Their strategy is to just arrest everyone in the vicinity and “sort it out later” which means being disappeared for at least 24 hours.
“He will be able to replicate this militarized approach to Los Angeles across maybe dozens of American cities.”

Cute story: my son calls the Home Depot “Home Deposie” - he likes to visit the one in our neighborhood on walks with my mom - on Thursday (Juneteenth) ICE raided the parking lot and rounded up 30 people, including a US citizen. Now my mom walks around with her expired passport “just in case”

The trump regime claims that peaceful migrants crossing the border = their countries declaring war on the US, BUT the US dropping bombs on a country =/= the US declaring war on that country. Straight out of the fascist playbook. Words mean whatever Dear Leader say they mean.
WELKER: Is the United States now at war with Iran?

JD VANCE: No. We're not at war with Iran. We're at war with Iran's nuclear program.

Great how you don’t even need to send a general to lie to the UN or bribe news orgs with promises of being “embedded” with troops to go to war in the US anymore. You just drop bombs and call for peace.
