This discussion is best had with the authors. But I’ll note that, if the authors are right that there’s no “brute fact” biological cause behind these outcomes, then excluding trans women from the gender analysis seems like special pleading… esp because trans women are obviously targeted by sexism

I suggest reading it more carefully. The point is that the variables are often gender-driven variables (e.g. insufficient access to training time for women’s athletes) that are misconstrued as sex-based
