Medieval Illuminated Manuscript Style? Haha
Quite unhinged, but I bet your interpretation would be amazing!

Example: This invertebran't

It is finally #WormWednesday again! 🪱
The perfect time to post my photo of this 40 cm long beast! :D

Scientific name: Phyllodoce lineata

I also have a fossilised snail (actually a lot of them if you count all the tiny fossilised snail in this stone)! I do not know what species it is nor how old the fossil is.

And another snail-stack!
They are also round, but they are not Rounded Snails.

It's a #snail. It's round. It's literally named "Rounded Snail" :D

Speaking of asymmetrical crustaceans, look at this huge claw!

Pisidia longicornis, the Long-clawed Porcelain Crab (false crab).

New shell pic! Epitonium clathrus. I love the spiral pattern from the apex-view! It sort of reminds me of romansco (fractal) broccoli. :D

I'm still weirded out by how large the proboscis in Glycera spp. is. You can see the two darker spots in the top right coil of this worm (Glycera fallax). Those are the jaws. The proboscis goes all the way to there.

I’m shooting a few mollusc photos for the profs at my university. This one (Calliostoma zizyphinum) is my favourite so far! :D

It’s a nice change not having to mind all the bristles and paddles of the polychaetes I usually deal with!

No marine organism today, but a photo I’m very proud of nonetheless.
It even got awarded “best photo” at the Botanical Garden Bioblitz earlier this year. :D

It’s a portrait of Bembecia ichneumoniformes, a wasp mimicking butterfly.

I've not been very active recently, but I'm back for this #WormWednesday with a polychaete from my favourite Genus: Phyllodoce. :D

I think, this is P. mucosa.

I don't really know what to do right now, I'm just waiting for some loading bars to finish loading, and I apparently have to be at the computer for this because otherwise it stops...

So I thought I'd share another cool animal: Hersiliodes latericius, a very orange copepod! :)

I haven't posted an animal in ages, but don't think I've run out! There's plenty more to come. This very fashionable blue and red amphipod for example!

I sadly don't know anything about it apart from that it is an amphipod.

Oh no! Due to City-Nature-Challenge craziness, I have totally forgotten about #InverteFest! D:

I hope I can make up for it with this collection of wonderful chitons, all of the species Lepidochitona cinerea, a species with amazing variety! :D

Here's a closeup of the head with those flappy things and all the little eyes. If you know what the flaps are called and what function they serve, please let me know! :D

It's my first #InverteFest! 🥳
To celebrate, here is a flat worm "dressed" for the occasion! Very colourful. Very pretty. Very dragonfruit. :)
Prostheceraeus moseleyi typically feeds on Ascidians, and is found in rocky habitats.

Here is a pic of the full worm!
Do you agree that it looks like a cow? I'm thinking more hippopotamus, tbh. Haha

It's #WormWednesday, so I have another polychaete for you!

It's a member of the Nereididae, some of which have jaws made of a very strong but light material. Who knows... Maybe we'll have spaceships made of worm-tooth one day!

But that's not all of the strangeness! As you can see (especially in this closeup) this individual carries eggs. That means of course that it is... male!
Male pantopods have a pair of specialised extremities called "ovigers" to which they glue the egg-sacks after fertilisation.

This one's cool! :D
It's a pantopod, presumably Nymphon gracile. It just crawled across my hand suddenly while I was looking for worms.
One of the few non-crustacean arthropods in the ocean, pantopods, like spiders, are chelicerates.

A very small little star: Asterina gibbosa
According to German Wikipedia it has the shape of a "slightly bloated pentagon". How rude! :(

It's quite smol too. This individual was about 1cm in diameter.

Here are some eggs for Easter for you. :)

Unlike most other easter-eggs, these were made by a butterfly instead of a bunny, though. :P
Happy Easter!

Here's another of my photos from the excursion: The Aeolid nudibranch Aeolidiella sanguinea! Just look at those cerata! :D

Its name means "bloody", but I think "fiery" would have been a better fit. They, too, look like mythical creatures!
