atproto feels like a protocol specifically designed to give twitter the veil of decentralization, but keep people virtually dependent on centrally-owned infrastructure.
it's open just like the web, in that it needs a google in the center.

what's the point of hosting my own data if there's nothing wrong with the way the default Bluesky PDS works
there's no advantage unless I'm paranoid, and if I were that paranoid I'd not be on Bluesky at all. it's also hilarious that to host my data, I have to give data over to the devs on Discord
